Official statement sang National Union of Journalists of the Philippines – Bacolod angut sa pagpasarado sang ABS-CBN sa syudad

Padayon lang mga Kapamilya
Today is heartbreaking.
Our colleagues and friends at ABS-CBN Bacolod have announced that they are among the retrenched workers of the broadcast network following the denial of its franchise bid by the 70 lawmakers.

The local station will cease operations after August 31.

And just like that, 81 of them will say goodbye to their home in the past years.
No, they did not lose their jobs because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
They lose their jobs because of the vindictiveness of this administration – the capricious of one man.

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines-Bacolod chapter is in solidarity with our colleagues and friends at ABS-CBN.

This is a very tough time for the press and for the country’s democracy.

We call on our colleagues to resist the further attempt of this government to shackle the press. Enough is enough.

We have to fight back.
