#WalaKlase: Public school sa Bacolod, suspendido ang klase

NO CLASSES IN BACOLOD TUESDAY [FEB. 13]

Mayor Evelio Leonardia today [Monday] ordered the suspension of classes in all public pre-school, elementary, and high schools in Bacolod Tuesday [Feb. 13] due to Tropical Storm “Basyang.”

Leonardia, who is in Cebu City yesterday together with the mayors for a meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte, made the order to DepEd-Bacolod schools division superintendent Cynthia Demavivas, upon consultation with her and Executive Assistant Jose Ma. Vargas, head of Cluster on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

Based on PAGASA’s Severe Weather Bulletin posted at 8:00 p.m. today [Feb. 12], Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental are under Storm Signal No. 1.

Vargas said the Mayor has declared suspension of classes from pre-school to high school because he is concerned of the dangers of floods to schoolchildren.

Vargas said floods have become a persistent, inevitable, and global problem due to the impact of climate change.

Floods affect us all – whether we are living in a small city or a big city, he said.

Even first-world cities, with all their advancement in road infrastructure and engineering, are not spared from floods, he added.

Notwithstanding these facts, Leonardia said he would like to assure his constituents that the city government is doing its best to cushion the impact of floods.

We are in constant coordination with the DPWH, DRRMO, City Engineer’s Office, BCPO, BTAO, and other agencies concerned to continually seek for more effective solutions to floods.*/CITY PIO
