May pahayag ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sa hindi pagsuporta ni Senator Imee Marcos sa pag-mandatorya ng Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC) sa mga senior high school student.
Ayon kay Imee, hindi siya sang-ayon na ipatupad ang mandatoryang training sa mga Grade 11 at 12 dahil hindi mapipilit ng gobyerno ang bata na maging sundalo o pumasok ng militar.
Samantala, isinusulong naman ni Imee ang “Citizen Service Program” mula elementarya hanggang kolehiyo sa ilalim ng Senate Bill 413.
Gusto ni Imee na maging disiplinado at makatao ang mga estudyante habang sila ay nag-aaral.
Pahayag ng AFP, ang ROTC program ay hindi maging sundalo ang mga estudyante bagkus ay para tuparin nito ang obligasyon sa mandato ng konstitusyon.
Sa Article II Section 4, “The prime duty of the Government is to serve and protect the people. The Government may call upon the people to defend the State and, in the fulfillment thereof, all citizens may be required, under conditions provided by law, to render personal, military or civil service.”
