Iginiit ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) na maaari lamang ipatupad ang China Coast Guard Law sa loob ng Chinese borders at hindi nito sakop ang territorial waters ng Pilipinas.
Ayon kay Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., maaaring gumawa ng anumang batas ang China pero magiging valid lamang ito sa loob ng kanilang border.
“I refuse to have it studied as if it applied to our territorial waters. It doesn’t. So we in boats go about our waters like the CCG law does not exist; we run up against its enforcement we fight back… or submit. China like Philippines can write any law but valid only within their borders,” sabi ni Locsin sa isang tweet.
Matatandaang inihayag ni dating Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio na ang Coast Guard Law ay banta sa seguridad hindi lamang sa Pilipinas pero sa iba pang bansang may claims sa South China Sea.
Kumbinsido rin ang dating mahistrado na maaaring kwestyunin ang legalidad ng Chinese Coast Guard Law sa international tribunal.
