MULING nagpahayag ng pangamba si Senadora Risa Hontiveros sa panganib sa seguridad na dala ng Dito Telecommunity Corp. na nakatakda ang commercial rollout sa susunod na buwan.
Ayon kay Hontiveros, ito’y dahil walang pangdepensa ang National Security Council (NSC) sa cybersecurity threats na dulot ng third telco sa bansa.
“The National Security Council admitted that it had not yet — as of our last hearing on Dito telco’s franchise — established a cyberdefense doctrine to guide our intelligence community in combatting cybersecurity threats,” pahayag ni Hontiveros.
“With China having a 40% stake in Dito, our unpreparedness for potential cyberthreats does not inspire confidence in the telco’s rollout this March, especially since it continues to harass our fisher folk and refuses to have its vessels boarded within our territorial waters in the West Philippine Sea,” dagdag pa niya.
Binanggit din ng senadora ang nilagdaang kasunduan ng Dito sa Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) para sa pagtatayo ng cell towers sa mga kampo ng militar, na aniya’y magdudulot ng panganib upang makakuha ng mga impormasyon ang China sa bansa.
Umaasa naman si Hontiveros na pagtutuunan ito ng pansin ng Senado at babantayan ang iba pang mga bantang maaaring idulot ng pagpasok ng third telco.
“I do hope that before Dito rolls out, we in the Senate can scrutinize the potential national risks further,” sabi pa ni Hontiveros.
Nauna na ring nagpahayag ng pangamba si Sen. Grace Poe sa kabiguan ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) at ng NSC na tiyakin ang kakayahan ng Filipinas na labanan ang nagngangalit na cybersecurity warfare.
