Iginiit ng Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) na walang dapat ipag-alala kasunod ng ulat na nasa 200,000 na Filipino workers ang mawawalan ng trabaho bunga ng posibleng pagbawi ng Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+).
Ayon kay Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, tiwala sila na walang “valid” at “convincing” reason ang European Commission para bawiin ang ganitong pribilehiyo.
Iginiit ni Bello, na patuloy na tumatalima ang Pilipinas sa mga requirement para manatili ang GSP+.
“We believe we have been compliant with the fundamental requirements and processes for the country to continue enjoying the privileges under the GSP+,” ani Bello.
Dagdag pa ni Bello, aktibong lumalahok ang DOLE sa mga proseso na may kinalaman sa pagbibigay ng updates at factual evidence, partikular sa mga usapin hinggil sa pagtalima sa labor rights.
Binigyang diin ni Bello na ang Pilipinas ang tanging bansa sa Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) na nakapagratipika ng walong fundamental conventions na may kinalaman sa labor, kabilang ang mga sumusunod:
- Freedom of Association and Protection on the Right to Organize Convention
- Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining Convention
- Forced Labor Convention
- Abolition of Forced Labor Convention
- Minimum Age Convention
- Worst Forms of Child Labor Convention
- Equal Remuneration Convention,
- Discrimination (Employment and Occupation) Convention
Nag-adopt din ang Pilipinas ng measures tulad ng Occupational Safety and Health Law, Expanded Maternity Benefit Leave, Anti-Age Discrimination in Employment.
“Our government recorded milestones in protecting and promoting the rights and welfare of our workers both locally and overseas,” ani Bello.
“These are just some of the significant policies in support of the labor rights in the country and we will be relentless in this undertaking,” dagdag ni Bello.
Nabatid na naglabas ng resolusyon ang European Parliament na nananawagang bawiin ang tariff benefits na ibinibigay sa Pilipinas kasunod ng lumalalang human rights situation sa bansa.
Sa kaniyang mensahe sa 75th United Nations General Assembly, tiniyak ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na patuloy na pinoprotektahan ng Pilipinas ang human rights.
