Ibinunyag ng Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) na pabor ang Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) na ipagpaliban ang pagbibigay ng 13th month pay sa halip na i-exempt ang distressed companies.
Ayon kay Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, napag-usapan niya ang paksang ito kay Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez.
Aniya, nasupresa siya sa naging reaksyon ni Lopez na ipagpaliban na lamang ang pagbibigay ng 13th month pay.
“I said we have a proposal that distressed companies will be exempted, but the other option is deferment instead of exempting,” sabi ni Bello.
Sinabi ni Bello na ang isyu ay tinalakay kasama ang National Tripartite Industrial Peace Council.
“Hopefully, we can come up and arrive with a consensus between workers and employers togetjer with DTI, National Labor Relations Commission and the Department of Labor and Employment,” ani Bello.
Ang hakbang na ipagpaliban ang 13th month pay ay mariing tinututulan ng Associated Labor Unions (ALU).
Sa ilalim ng Presidential Decree 851, nire-require ang lahat ng employer na bayaran ang kanilang mga empleyado ng 13th month pay na hindi lalagpas ng December 24 kada taon.
