Binasag na ni Liberal Party candidate Mar Roxas ang kanyang katahimikan ukol sa kanyang pagkatalo sa katatapos lamang na 2019 senatorial race.
“Well, we didn’t make it. Disappointing and sad but ganyan talaga ang buhay,” ani Roxas.
Nakakuha lamang si Roxas ng may 9.8 million boto, at pumanglabing-anim lamang sa 16th in the Commission on Elections’ final at official tally of votes para sa senatorial race. Kabilang si Roxas sa opposition candidate sa ilalim ng Otso Diretso.
Ito ang ikatlong sunud-sunod na pagkatalo ni Roxas matapos itong mabigo sa kaniyang vice-presidential noong 2010 poll at presidential bids noong 2016 poll.
Kahit bigo, pinasalamatan naman ni Roxas ang kanyang mga supporters noong kampanya at paniniwala sa kaniyang ipinaglalaban at prinsipyo.
“On behalf of my whole family, maraming maraming salamat sa tiwala, suporta at malasakit. I am so very humbled and honored to have been in the trenches and frontline with you all,” mensaheng isinulat sa kanyang official Facebook page.
Hindi pa alam ni Roxas ang susunod niyang hakbang sa mundo ng pulitika.
“For now, I encourage you to do what I’m going to do – hug my family, nurture them, learn some more, work some more, love some more… in short, try to live life to the fullest,” dagdag ng dating DILG Secretary.
Ayon naman sa asawa nitong si Korina Sanchez na isang newscaster, ang pagkatalo ay bahagi ng pulitika at ang pagtakbo ng kaniyang asawa sa pagka-senador ay bahagi ng pag-asa nitong makatulong sa pagpapa-unlad sa bansa.
“Politics is a game. You play the game hoping for a win so you can honestly serve and correct what needs to be. Make the world a better place than when we found it. Cant do much about how other players play the game, or what other motivations there could be.
“Yesterday our twins Pepe and Pilar turned three months old. We can only wish they grow up in a Godly country fit for Godly human beings. Meantime, we soldier on. Until we get as close as possible to what’s best for the country, and for our children. The work continues,”

Wala ni isa man sa senatorial candidates ng Otso Diretso ang lumusot sa Magic 12 ng katatapos na 2019 midterm elections.
