City of Manila – With the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) still in place in the National Capital Region (NCR) and surrounding areas, Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and CEO Senator Richard J. Gordon has made sure that the most vulnerable are fed during the implementation of strict lockdowns. The PRC head directed one of its food trucks to be deployed to Delpan in Manila, serving ready-to-eat hot meals to 200 informal settlers affected by the lockdown.
The food truck sent to Delpan is only one of many that will continue to roam around the Metro and nearby provinces to feed 7,000 individuals until August 19, 2021.
PRC recently procured seven additional food trucks on top of its existing 16 food trucks as part of its first humanitarian responses to provide food to the most vulnerable.
“Marami ang nagugutom lalo na ngayong ECQ. Marami ang hindi makalabas, marami ang hindi makapasok sa trabaho. Ang food truck na ito ay simbolo ng pagasa na maghahatid ng pagkain sa iba’t ibang tao sa Metro Manila at karatig bayan,” Sen. Gordon said.
PRC in partnership with the Japanese Red Cross, also plans to distribute food packages to the most vulnerable sectors like senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and single parents.
Gordon also added that the Hot-Meals-on-Wheels initiative is just one of many operations he is directing the Red Cross to do during the pandemic. There are also non-stop COVID testing, vaccination, emergency field hospitals, cash grants, specialized ambulance units among many others.
