GRENADE EXPLOSION INCIDENT IN ZAMBOANGA CITY

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Grenade explosion incident transpired at Mosque, Logoy Diutay, Barangay Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City at about 12:25 AM of January 30, 2019. The incident resulted in the death of two (2) persons and injured three (3) persons.

PNP personnel of Zamboanga City Police Station 6 who immediately responded to the reported place of incident identified the fatalities as Hji. Sattal M. Bato, 47 years old, married, resident of Isabela City, Basilan and Rex Z. Habil, 46 years old, married, resident of Lamitan, Basilan.

Three (3) other male persons were injured as they sustained injuries on different parts of their body. They were identified as Palson Saji Asgali, male, 44 years old, married, Alnizkar A. Sabbaha, male, 30 years old, married, and Jikilani J. Albani, male, 60 years old, married, all of Lamitan, Basilan. They were immediately brought to Zamboanga City Medical Center for immediate medical attention.


Investigation conducted disclosed that on or about 12:20 AM of January 30, 2019, a group of “Tablig” as mentioned above took their rest inside the mosque, located at Logoy Diutay, Zamboanga City, when suddenly the street light in the area were switch off by unidentified suspect. Thereafter the suspect/s hurled a grenade inside the mosque where the group of “Tablig” rested and others had performed their Islamic faith.

Recovered in the crime scene were one (1) safety lever, one (1) volvering, one (1) part of cock striker and identified as grenade/ PRB 423 (Belgium).

The PNP bomb squad together with the Philippine Marines Bomb Squad and Philippine Army Bomb Squad are now conducting a post blast examination. Meanwhile, Special Investigation of Unit of Zamboanga City Police Office and PNP SOCO augmented the Zamboanga City Police Station 6 (Tetuan) in conducting thorough investigation to reveal the motives and identities of the perpetrators.
