LENTEN MESSAGE of Vice Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson

LENTEN MESSAGE of Vice Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson, Provincial Capitol, Bacolod City, March 26, 2018

Lenten greetings to the Negrense community. The Holy Father, Pope Francis, said that he would like “this year to help the entire Church experience this time of grace anew, with joy and in truth.” His guiding verse are the words of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew, “because of the increase of iniquity, the love of many will grow cold.”

We are all “concerned about the chill that paralyzes hearts and actions, and see a weakening in our sense of being members of the one human family.” Our Negrense community also have our share of struggles that may bring about a coldness of heart which is why I appeal to our beloved constituents to respond to the call of the Holy See to hear God’s voice and do what we can for others.

This is a good time to appreciate the blessings that continue to abound in our lives. Let us find warmth in the presence of family and friends, in the personal victories of our day to day realities. Let us see the generous hand of God in the changes in our country that promises a better and safer tomorrow for our children.

As we pause from work, let us reflect on our capacities to shape lives of meaning that come from good intentions.

I end with the Pope’s prayer that “May the light of Christ rising in glory dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds, and enable all of us to relive the experience of the disciples on the way to Emmaus.

By listening to God’s word and drawing nourishment from the table of the Eucharist, may our hearts be ever more ardent in faith, hope and love.”
