Nagpaabot ng kalungkutan si Pope Francis sa pagpanaw ni dating Pangulong Noynoy Aquino III.
Sa telegramang ipinaabot kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, inihayag ng Santo Papa ang kanyang pakikiramay sa buong mamamayan ng Pilipinas hinggil sa pagpanaw ng dating pangulo.
Nagpaabot din si Pope Francis ng simpatya sa pamilya ni PNoy.
“Saddened to learn of the death of former President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the people of the Philippines. Recalling the late President’s service to the nation, I commend his soul into the hands of the all-merciful God. Upon his family and all who mourn his passing I invoke abundant consolation and peace in the Lord.”
Matatandaang bumisita ang Santo Papa noong 2015 sa ilalim ng termino ni dating Pangulong Aquino.
