PCSO to Bring Top-Perfoming UltraPortable AI Xray Technology Tested by NASA to Batanes

QUEZON CITY — In support of the healthcare agenda of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., residents of Batanes are set to receive world-class medical screening as a high-performance, portable AI X-ray system—previously chosen for evaluation in NASA’s space-ready imaging tests—is deployed to the province.

The REMEX KA6 recently stood out in a selection process by NASA, where it was tested alongside other high-end systems for potential use by astronauts in outer space. Emerging as the top performer in those evaluations, the device proved its reliability and precision under demanding conditions.

In a joint effort with the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), this cutting-edge technology is being brought to Basco and Sabtang, Batanes for an upcoming medical mission. Unlike traditional, bulky X-ray machines, the REMEX KA6 is battery-operated and compact, light weight (3.5 kgs) making it easy for health workers to reach remote island and mountain communities.

Equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI), the machine can instantly screen for Tuberculosis (TB) and six other chest-related diseases like pneumonia, nodules, masses, pneumothorax, pleural effusion, increased lung opacity, including bone fractures. This allows for immediate diagnosis on the spot, saving Ivatan patients from the long and often difficult travel to major hospitals.

“This mission is in accordance with President Marcos’ instruction to bring the best technology closer to the people,” PCSO GM Melquiades Robles said. “By partnering with the private sector and using cutting edge technology, we are ensuring that the community receives the most accurate and safe diagnostic care available today,” he further added.

With its low-radiation design and high-speed results, the deployment marks a major step in making modern healthcare accessible to even the most distant islands in the Philippines, ensuring no community is left behind.
