August 19, Mandaluyong City — Philippine Red Cross (PRC) employees held a bloodletting activity at the PRC National Blood Center, in Mandaluyong City, to celebrate World Humanitarian Day. August 19 has been celebrated as World Humanitarian Day since 2008 to remind the public of the risk humanitarian workers take to save lives and bring aid to people during emergencies and disasters.
“Sa Red Cross naniniwala kami na isa sa mga paraan para makasalba ng buhay ay ang pagdo-donate ng dugo. Kaya hinihikayat namin ang isa’t isa na mag-donate,” PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon said.
Voluntary blood donation is a regular activity of the Philippine Red Cross as part of its commitment to save lives. The PRC blood service facilities are a vital part of the country’s health infrastructure, supporting a significant part of the country’s blood services needs across the country.
From January 1 to August 18, 2022, the PRC has served 146,217 patients needing blood products in its 102 blood service facilities nationwide. For blood donations, blood requests, and other inquiries, email the PRC National Blood Services at nbs@redcross.org.ph or contact the PRC Blood Call Center, which may be reached nationwide by dialing 143.
