Nakarekober man sa cancer noong Setyembre nakaraang taon ay binawian naman ng buhay dahil sa coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) ang isang pulis mula New York.
Inanunsyo ng New York Police Department ang pagpanaw ni Detective Robert Cardona, 41, noong Miyerkules dahil sa virus.
Base sa repot ng NYPD, ika-5 detective na at ika-27 police department employee na si Cardona na nasawi dahil sa COVID-19.
“Heroically, he had fought back against and was in remission from 9/11-related cancer at the time he was admitted to the hospital with coronavirus symptoms nearly one month ago,” ani NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea.
Dagdag niya, maaaring lahat sila ay nakararamdam na ng takot dahil sa pagtaas ng bilang ng namatay sa kanilang grupo ngunit hindi umano mawawala ang kanyang pananampalataya.
Itinalaga si Cardona sa 13th Precinct Detective Squad sa Gramercy Park at nagsilbing precinct union delegate, at siya ay ama ng isang 8-anyos na lalaki.
Saad naman ni Detectives’ Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacmo, “He was dedicated to his job and being a detective. Not only did he serve the people of the city, but he also served his fellow detectives.”
Ito na raw marahil ang pinakamadilim na sandali para sa kanilang mga detective matapos silang mawalan ng limang pulis sa loob lamang ng maikling panahon.
“This is no different from being shot in the line of duty, and I call this virus the invisible bullet,” sabi niya.
Kaugnay nito, dalawang iba pang civilian employees ang nasawi din dahil sa naturang virus na inanunsyo din ng NYPD noong Miyerkules.
