Red Cross assists in Sulu aviation mishap

A Philippine Air Force (PAF) C130 crashed yesterday, July 4, 2021, around 11:30 AM, at Brgy. Bangkal, Patikul, Sulu.

The aircraft carrying 96 passengers, including 3 pilots, 5 crews, and army personnel, burst into flames after missing the landing strip.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) sent a response team to the scene, dispatching an ambulance with 3 emergency medical services (EMS) personnel.


The PRC Sulu Chapter also alerted its volunteers around the area and also provided 5 cadaver bags to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for proper management of the fatalities.

A total of 53 individuals were injured, 49 army personnel, who were transported to the 11th Infantry Division in Busbus, Sulu, and 4 civilians, who were transported to Sulu Sanitarium Hospital. Two houses were also totally damaged from the crash.

PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Richard Gordon also tweeted about the incident saying, “There must be strong maintenance operations and continuous training by our troops to obviate the loss of life, manpower, and material.”

The mishap is considered as one of the country’s deadliest military aviation accidents with 50 fatalities, 47 from the troops, and 3 civilians.
