RESCUED | Passing cargo vessel rescues 3 fishermen

BACOLOD CITY – Three (3) distressed fishermen were successfully rescued by a cargo vessel “LCT Our Lady of the Philippines” at vicinity waters off Dumangas, Iloilo around 6:15 AM 06 March 2018.

Investigation revealed that at 4:30 PM on 05 March 2018, three (3) fishermen namely: Mr. Ramon Hiponia; Mr. Leo Tasio; and, Mr. Joey Capangpangan, all of them are from Sitio Cabug Baybay, Brgy. Guinhalaran, Silay City, Negros Occidental onboard their fishingbanca went on fishing venture.

At around 11:00 PM, they were hit by a strong winds coupled by a big waves causing their fishingbanca to capsize.


Fortunately, distressed fishermen were able to manage themselves to hold on the outrigger of the capsized banca until a passing cargo vessel LCT Our Lady of the Philippines noticed and immediately rescued them at around 5:50 AM 06 March 2018.

Rescued fishermen were turned over to Coast Guard Sub-Station Bacolod upon the arrival of the cargo vessel at BREDCO Port, Bacolod City on the same day.

Likewise, the three (3) rescued fishermen went to their respective families in good physical conditions./ News Release from CoastGuard Bacolod
