Maaaring ibenta ng pamahalaan ang ibang properties nito sa ibang departamento pero hindi pwede ang mga properties nito sa Japan.
Ito ang paninindigan ni Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin matapos ihayag ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na posible niyang ibenta ang Philippine properties sa Japan para pondohan ang COVID-19 reponse ng pamahalaan.
Sa tweet, iginiit ni Locsin na hindi siya kailanman sasang-ayon na ibenta ang mga properties sa Japan.
Suhestyon ng kalihim na ibenta na lamang ang mga ari-arian mula sa iba pang government properties na hindi naman nagagamit.
“I will never agree to the sale of our properties in Japan for any reason. Sell the properties of the departments of budget, treasury, health above all for its lousy response to COVID,” ani Locsin sa Twitter.
Partikular na tinutukoy ni Locsin ang mga properties ng Department of Health (DOH).
“Imagine selling our Japan properties to fund the programs of DOH? Rob PhilHealth some more instead. They’re good at that. Sell San Lazaro. Sell RITM (Research Institute for Tropical Medicine),” sabi ni Locsin.
Sa ilalim ng 1990 ruling ng Supreme Court, ang government properties at capital goods at services mula sa Japanese Government para sa national development projects ay bahagi ng indemnification para sa mga Pilipinong namatay at naghirap noong World War II.
