Manila, Philippines – Sinang-ayunan nina Senate Majority Leader Tito Sotto III at Senator Chiz Escudero ang pahayag ni House Justice Committee Chairman Reynaldo Umali na ‘moot and academic’ na ang impeachment complaint laban kay Chairman Andres Bautista.
Ayon kay Senator Sotto, nagbitiw na bilang chairman ng Commission on Elections si Baustita kaya hindi na siya dapat i-impeach.
Sabi naman ni Senator Escudero, ang Kamara ang dapat magdesisyon sa isyu dahil hindi pa naman naisusumite ang articles of impeachment sa Senado.
Pero ayon kay Escudero, malinaw sa desisyon ng Supreme Court sa 2001 case na Estrada vs Desierto na maituturing ng moot ang impeachment complaint oras na matanggal o bumaba na sa pwesto ang isang impeachable official.
