MY family and friends, most especially those who know who Jed Mabilog is, let us share with the Philippines and tell the world who he is. Understandably, in this world made smaller by social media, a lot of people do not know him. Our President does not know him. Moreso they do not know him when the source of their information is Politics. But we the ILONGGOS, and many other Filipinos know him as he has touched the lives of many.
Jed Mabilog was born to a father of the Chavez-Mabilog clan who was a banker, and a mother who is of the Conlu Locsin Clan. Like the rest of his siblings educated in Assumption Iloilo where his mother graduated and where he got his spiritual upbringing. He proceeded to the public school UP Iloilo City for high School and College and West Visayas State University for further studies. Thus the mix of prayer and public service.
Jed Mabilog was a born leader. He was always class president. He always wanted to serve. He always wanted to help people. And during all these times he was spiritual. Our mother Melchorita Conlu Locsin Mabilog, also of the Yusay-Consing clan, being an interna of Colegio del Sagrado de Jesus in high school, and Assumption Iloilo for College, always made us kneel and pray together as Mama Mary’s image was always present in our home.
Jed Mabilog started his career in a Japanese firm and because of hard work rose to the ranks in a Japanese work environment. This is where he honed his professionalism. This is why even when he was Mayor he still wore his ID and attend flag ceremonies. He also regularly invited speakers for city hall employees for their advancement. He applied this discipline in his work and set goals to push Iloilo to be the best City it can be. This is where his will and focus to complete tasks or political will comes from.
Jed Mabilog , in growing up made a lot of friends in his classmates , his Kabataang Barangay co chairmen and officers. He even run as KB president but lost. However he still emerged a winner as it is where he met his wife Marivic Griengo, who run with him in his slate, a simple kind brilliant bright and also God-fearing woman who became a CPA boardtopnotcher and worked as an OFW as a Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of one of the biggest Oil Firms in Canada for decades, and who for her love of Jed and public service funded Jed’s run as Councilor , vice mayor, and Mayor of Iloilo City. Now she is home in Iloilo City and enjoying the fruits of her retirement with her family.
Jed started his political career as he opted for early retirement from the Japanese firm. In a years time joined and became Makati Jaycees Secretay-General and a year later Makati Jaycees President, then the next year run and became no. 1 Iloilo City Councilor on his 1st try. After one term became Vice-Mayor, and after another 1 term, Mayor. Now he is on his 3rd term and while doing so finished his Masters in local governance at Ateneo , Masters in Urban Planning in UP Iloilo, and a Doctorate in Human Resources in Cebu while modernizing and observing political will to make Iloilo City the most livable city and receiving successive 2011 to present including receiving awards from the PDEA and PNP for fighting drugs.
His schedule as a grassroots and tireless working Mayor is eternally a full schedule, and in the process thru the years, has always his rosary, and bible with him. He in the face of accusations lately has made him read his bible more and more as he and his family seeks refuge in God.
Now what of this charges against him? What i know is that the The road of politics is really dirty wherein stories are made up and where even the Mayors mother was called a majordoma and his house a mansion. The land or compound on which our circa 1800’s ancestral home stands was inherited from ancestors and the Mayors new house built on more or less a 200 square meter portion when Wife Marivic came home after retirement from the sweat and tears of hard work of Jed and Marivic’s retirement money. Actually, though looking imposing from the Iloilo Esplanade , it has a small living space inside as the living room , dining room, and kitchen are cramped in one open space close to each other and the laundry just outside plus the bedroom. And the tower is just the stairs and bedrooms. He already has opened his house to Iloilo media and Iloilo has seen it.
Mayor Jed is not a drug protector. Nor did he ever use drugs nor pushed it. Simply put his God and spiritual life, his wife Marivic, his mother Melchorita, his children, his siblings, his relatives, his friends, HIMSELF WILL NOT ALLOW it. We hate drugs. We hate what it has done to many friends whose lives were ruined by it. It is a pariah or a poison to all!
Sadly, as celebrities and moreso politicians experience, a lot of people would like to have their picture or selfie with Mayor Jed. Who would not? And how can he stop them? A lot have been victims of this. But elected officials cannot stop this hazardous practice not only among filipinos but all over the world.
I pity Jed. I call on Ilonggos Filipinos and Citizens of the world who know him to tell the world who he is. He is not a Drug Protector. Iloilo City is the third lowest city in terms of drug incidents. Iloilo City is among the most progressive, beautiful, and most livable Cities of the Philippines. Mayor Jed is an asset, a gift, a blessing to Ionggos, Filipinos, our country, our President Rodrigo Duterte and the world. He is an exceptional leader and person with God-fearing values, and is a kind gentle and loving person. Like any human being his faults are he may have been angry but on performance when work has not been done well or not done well , that was part of his work ethic. But he has mellowed by age and prayer.
