Davao City – Dili lamang droga, krimen, korapsyon, gyera, terorismo, instabilidad o nag-alburutong kinaiyahan ang atong primera kun nag-unang suliran sa nasud karon: Problema usab nato ang nanghinobrang kapobrehon kun kawad-on ug kahigwa-os ilabi na kun partneran pa gyud sa padayong naglobo nga gidak-on sa atong populasyon.
This indeed is a deadly combination: High population and worsening poverty and economic disparity. If not handled well and correctly, this will eventually be the ultimate recipe for political instability, rebellion and insurrection and even a continuing loss or decline of the public’s trust and satisfactory ratings of the present leadership.
Ang klaro niini mao nga ‘vicious cycle’ gayud ang kapobrehon ug ang mga dili maayong nagapanghitabo sa atong katilingban: Each problem will give rise to another social malady so that if we wish to solve one, we must solve all so that the cycle will hopefully.
Nganong mo-enter man sa droga pananglit ang adik? Tungod ba lamang kay type lang niya nga mosuyop aron molupad ngadto sakapunawpunawan? So, how do we solve our country’s worsening poverty and social inequality? The answer lies not just in the corridors of power, not just of the concept of ‘whole-of-government approach.’
To me, what we sorely need is ‘whole-of-society approach,’ each one of us contributing our share in helping each other rise above our needs, sharing what we have and encouraging each other not just to survive but to live well and decently.
We do not need palliative solutions like 4Ps: What we need is the bayanihan spirit of helping one another.
