THE LOW PRESSURE AREA NORTHWEST OF EXTREME NOTHERN LUZON HAS ENTERED THE PHILIPPINE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (PAR), DEVELOPED INTO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION AND WAS NAMED “LUIS”.

 

TD LUIS made landfall in the vicinity of Kaoshiung, Taiwan around 8:00 AM this morning.

 

The TD is not expected to directly affect any part of the country.

LUIS may enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) which will bring scattered moderate to heavy rains in La Union, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Batanes and Babuyan Islands and the Codillera Administrative Region (CAR) starting tomorrow (August 24). Residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and in mountainous areas, are advised to take appropiate actions against possible flooding and landslides, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and to continue monitoring for updates.

Sea travel is risky in the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon.

 

At 10:00 AM today, a Low Pressure Area (LPA) was estimated at 1,465 km East of Extreme Nothern Luzon (19.2°N, 135.5°E) (Outside PAR).

 

Location of eye/center: At 10:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Depression “LUIS” was estimated based on all available data at 290 km North Northwest of Basco, Batanes (22.7 °N, 120.6 °E)

Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 90 km/h

Forecast Movement: Moving East Northeast at 15 km/h

24 Hour(Tomorrow morning): 505 km North of Basco, Batanes(24.9°N, 121.0°E)

48 Hour(Saturday morning):545 km North Northwest of Basco, Batanes(25.0°N, 120.0°E)

72 Hour(Sunday morning): 585 km Northwest of Basco, Batanes (OUTSIDE PAR)(24.4°N, 118.2°E)

 

NO TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING SIGNAL

The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next update to be incorporated in the 4 PM Public Weather Forecast and in the next Severe Weather Bulletin to be issued at 11 PM today.

Walay natala nga pag ulan sa Cagayan de Oro karong orasa.

 

Mapanganuron ang ubang parti sa Libona; Mampayag, Dahilayan ug Lindaban, Manolo Fortich. (Kining mga lugara mao ang tinubdan sa tubig nga makapabaha sa Lapasan paingon sa Bugo).

 

Madag-umon ngadto sa hinay (light) nga pag ulan ang nasinati sa Talakag ug Baungon karong orasa. (Kining mga lugara ang makapasaka sa tubig sa suba sa Cagayan).

 

NORMAL ang LEVEL sa tubig sa mga suba sa Cagayan ug Iponan.
