Puwede pa din magpatuloy ang operasyon ng ABS-CBN hanggang 2022 kahit hindi pa aprubahan sa Kongreso ang franchise renewal bill ng kompanya, ayon sa isang mambabatas.
Sa kabila ito ng pangamba na agarang magsasara ang istasyon kapag napaso ang prangkisa nila sa Marso 30.
Paglilinaw ni Rep. Antonio Albano, vice chairman ng House Committee on Legislative Franchises, naihain sa Kamara ang panukala bago pa ma-expire ang lisensya ng broadcast network sa susunod na buwan at pansamantala lamang itong nakabinbin.
“May I remind the public that even if the ABS-CBN franchise expires on March 30, it doesn’t mean that ABS-CBN will close completely because the rule of thumb… is that while 18th Congress is still ongoing they can continue its services (pending renewal of application),” pahayag ni Albano.
Dagdag ng kongresista, mapapanood pa rin ang mga programa ng Kapamilya network hanggang matapos ang termino ng 18th Congress.
“We do plan to deliberate on it ASAP… We assure the public later on that we will hear the case because the committee chairman, and the leadership of the House in particular, has been closely monitoring the events but we also have a lot of other issues to tackle before the ABS-CBN franchise,” ani Albano.
Sa ngayon, hindi pa tinatalakay sa Mababang Kapalungan ang 11 panukalang batas na naglalayong i-renew ang prangkisa ng ABS-CBN.
Nitong Lunes, maghain ng quo warranto petition si Solicitor General Jose Calida sa Korte Suprema, laban sa giant media bunsod ng “highly abusive practices” at paglabag sa “foreign ownership restrictions”, alinsunod sa 1987 Philippine Constitution.
