Kinontra ni retired Supreme Court Associate Justice at dating Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales ang pahayag ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na maliligtas siya mula sa criminal liability kapag nanalo siya bilang bise presidente sa susunod na eleksyon.
Iginiit ni Carpio-Morales na walang immunity ang vice president mula sa mga kaso o anumang criminal liability.
“And of course, that has been proven wrong because… the vice president as far as the US jurisprudence is concerned. A vice president is not immune from suit, from any criminal liability, as far as US jurisprudence is concerned 217 years ago,” sabi ni Carpio-Morales.
Tingin din Carpio-Morales, wala siyang nakikitang pagbabago kahit pa maging bise presidente si Pangulong Duterte.
“I don’t think hope is coming because the President is now aligning himself to run for vice president because he believes that if he is vice president his assumption that he will win he will be spared from any criminal liability… he will continue what he has been doing for the last five years,” sabi ng dating mahistrado.
Sinabi naman ni retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio na kapag nagdesisyon na ang international Criminal Court (ICC) na ituloy ang preliminary investigation nito sa war on drugs, itutuloy nila ito sino pa man ang umupong lider ng bansa.
Una nang sinabi ng Malacañang na hindi pa rin makikipagtulungan ang Duterte administration sa ICC sa kabila ng ruling ng Korte Suprema na obligado pa rin ang Pilipinas na makipag-cooperate kahit umaklas pa mula sa Rome statute.
