Hinirang ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte si dating Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Michael Pastores Ong bilang bagong mahistrado sa Court of Appeals.
Si Ong ang papalit sa binakanteng posisyon sa Court of Appeals na ngayon ay Supreme Court Justice Samuel Gaerlan.
Inilabas ng Korte Suprema ang appointment paper ni CA Associate Justice Ong na pirmado ni Executive Sec. Salvador Medialdea.
Noong May 20, 2021 pa ang nasabing appointment letter galing sa Malacañang pero kahapon pa lamang ito nakuha ng tanggapan ni Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo.
Matatanadaan na si Ong na 15 taon ng nagsisilbi sa gobyerno ay unang naging court attorney sa ilalim ng pamumo ni dating Supreme Court Associate Justice at Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
Nanungkulan rin siya sa Office of the President noong panahon ni dating pangulong Noynoy Aquino bilang Office of the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel at naging Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary for Legal Affairs hanggang sa maging Deputy Executive Secretary for General Affairs bago ma-appoint bilang Senior Deputy Executive Secretary noong 2018.
