ILOILO City – Napilian bilang bag-o nga presidente sang Utah Valley University (UVU) sa United States ang isa ka Pinay nga nagdako sa squatters area diri sa Iloilo City.

Ini ang ginkilala kay Dr. Astrid Tuminez.

Si Tuminez ang napilian sang Utah State Board of Regents bilang ika-7 nga presidente sang UVU.


“Out of an impressive field of candidates, Dr. Tuminez rose to the top in the search for the next president to lead UVU . . . she articulated a clear and compelling vision for UVU, and she understands the value of collaboration within Utah’s system of public colleges and universities,” pahayag ni David L. Buhler, Utah Commissioner of Higher Education.

“Dr. Tuminez has proven to be a dynamic leader across academic, nonprofit, public policy, and corporate sectors…“Throughout her storied career, she has focused on bridging gaps in education and opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives, which seamlessly aligns with UVU’s institutional mission and core themes. Dr. Tuminez’s experience, vision, and dedication to student success will ensure that UVU continues to thrive in the years ahead,” ang pahayag ni Daniel W. Campbell, chair of the Board of Regents.

Antes nangin presidente, nagserbe si Tuminez bilang Vice Dean of Research kag Assistant Dean of Executive Education sa Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy sa National University of Singapore. Naaggradwar si Tuminez sa Master of Arts in Soviet Studies sa Harvard University kag Doctorate Degree in Political Science and Government sa Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Nagdako si Tuminez sa squatters area diri sa syudad sang Iloilo kag lima ka tuig ang iya edad sang gintanyagan sang madre nga mag-eskwela. Suno kay Tuminez nga diri na nagsugod ang pagbag-o sa iya kabuhi tubtob nakalab-ot siya sa United States kag karon nangin president sang Utah Valley University.
