Stronger winds and heavier rains hit northern Cebu as tropical storm Urduja makes its first landfall in Northern Samar yesterday.
Although its eye was still in Eastern Visayas, Urduja forced authorities in Cebu to cancel 10 flights and 33 boat trips, as well as order some families to evacuate to avoid getting caught in floods or landslides.
As tropical storm Urduja weakens slightly while traversing northern part of Samar this afternoon, northern Cebu (from Mandaue City to Daanbantayan town) remains on Signal No. 1. Cebu will continue to experience scattered to widespread rains and sea travels remain to be risky.
Advisory to residents of Bantayan Island, Daanbantayan, and nearby areas:
At 10 p.m. tonight, December 16, high tide is expected. At 11 p.m. tonight, December 16, expect that the eye of the storm will pass approximately 78 km away from your area. High tide and strong storm wind is likely to cause wind wave. A wind wave is a “baby” storm surge.
Local Government Units (LGUs) in coastal areas are enjoined to ensure that residents from coastal areas have been safely evacuated.
