Isang linggo matapos kastiguhin ang flight delays at cancellations sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), pinaalalahanan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang mga airline companies na dapat siguradong maayos ang kanilang serbisyo sa mga pasahero.
Muling sinabi ni Duterte sa ika-121 anibersayo ng Philippine Navy ang paghihirap ng mga pasahero dahil sa delayed flights.
Aniya, “So I told PAL (Philippine Airlines), and the rest of the carriers, the very essence of a common carrier, whether it is a jeep, a bus, an airplane, a ship, ang common ano diyan is for public interest and public governance, and convenience. If you cannot provide convenience and comfort, do we ought not to be there at all?”
Sa ginawang surprise visit noong Hunyo 10, inutusan ng Pangulo ilipat sa Sangley Point ang lahat ng domestic flights para mabawasan ang kasikipan sa NAIA.
“Sabi ko why don’t you look at the direction of Sangley? Maski na lang sa mga cargo, to ease up a bit ‘yung kuwan,” tugon ni Duterte.
Ayon kay Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade, inatasan nito ang contractor na tapusin ang proyekto bago sumapit ang Nobyembre 2019 deadline ng Pangulo.
Umaabot ng mahigit 42 milyong pasahero ang lumalapag sa apat na terminals ng NAIA kada taon.
