(Manila, Philippines, July 9, 2021) Years went by and radio continues in fulfilling its significant role for community building by the power of information and public service. High time to celebrate its relevance, the RMN Foundation, Inc., (Foundation) launched last February 13 during the World Radio Day, its One Radio campaign.

Anchored to the Radyo Edukasyon’s corporate social responsibility program pillar, the One Radio campaign aims to help beneficiaries to own a source of information for news and education especially during the challenges to academics brought by COVID-19.

Realizing the importance of radio

To commemorate the World Radio Day, last February 2021, the Foundation launched an online contest via Facebook to determine who will be the lucky winners of the radio set giveaway.

Jia Chez, a winner from Naga, answers the question, “Paano nakatulong ang radyo sa isang buhay?” by sharing the importance of radio to her and her family.

The outpour of responses in RMN’s World Radio Day giveaway goes to show that radio remains relevant and indispensable in the lives of Filipinos. The revolution of the new media has its own significance but it cannot outweigh the reputation of radio as the trusted source for information across the country, especially in remote areas.

From significance to sustainability

Driven with the passion to help the vulnerable sectors in the society; the Foundation launched another round last June 1st, 2021 – the One Radio campaign, which intends to provide radio sets to deserving and indigent families in various communities in the Philippines.

The Foundation through the RMN stations in key cities such as Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Cotabato, General Santos, Iloilo, Kalibo, Naga, and Zamboanga distributed hundreds of solar radio sets. The solar transistor sets will be a great help to the beneficiaries by serving as their medium for obtaining news and entertainment, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the times continue to change, radio also continues with its purpose to inform people and help them sustain their everyday needs.

With the One Radio campaign under the Radyo Edukasyon program of the Foundation, more families and communities are expected to benefit from the radio sets distributed for free that can deliver information for both news and education needs across the country.
