“A clarification regarding the reports on the medical and health status of the Negros Occidental delegation to the VWRAA 2018 which came out in news reports yesterday: (February 20, 2018).

“We vehemently deny that there were almost 400 athletes, coaches and trainers that were given medical attention as of yesterday as reported by some media outfits,” said Dr. Jose Maria C. Villarosa III, head of the medical team.

Villarosa added, “Based on our logbook, only 105 patients have been attended to by our medical staff since Day 1 until today.”

The patients that sought medical assistance, according to the records, come from the different age groups. They are either athletes, coaches or trainers.

The different cases recorded in the log book are as follows:

Musculoskeletal pain – 45 patients Colds – 10 patients Elevated blood pressure – 9 patients Toothache – 4 patients Headache – 2 patients Asthma – 1 patients Allergic reaction – 7 patients Abrasion – 10 patients Hyper acidity – 8 patients LBM – 6 patients Fever – 1 patients Sty – 1 patients Sore throat – 1 patients

Reported game-related injuries, on the other hand, are minor and minimal in number.

Villarosa said that the exaggerated reports are not fair to the personnel of the billeting school, La Paz I Elementary School.

“The faculty and staff, headed by Principal Mario Mediavilla and Mam Maria Victoria Saturnino, the school clinic coordinator, never stopped from checking daily the cleanliness and sanitation of the school, despite the presence of our delegation’s Billeting Committee,” he said.

Villarosa added that this morning, February 20, 2018, the school requested Iloilo City Water District to check on the water supply of the school to ensure that it is adequate and safe for use.

Meanwhile, the Head of Delegation, Gladys Amylaine D. Sales, CESO, OIC – Superintendent of the Division of Negros Occidental appealed to the media companies to report factual and verified data only.

“Exaggeration of news is unnecessary since this is sports and must not be sensationalized,” she added.

Sales further said, “Unverified news will only make a bad image for the delegation and our host school, which is not fair.

Also, it will weaken the morale of our supporters and our participants. Remember, we are aiming for the top position in this competition. How can we do that if unverified reports about our delegation is spreading around?”
