iFM News Laoag — Today marks the 99th Birthday of Magdalena Galinato Gamayo in Pinili Town of Ilocos Norte — an Ilocano master weaver recognized by the Philippine government as a National Living Treasure Awardee.
Gamayo is known for her unique traditional patterns of binakol, inuritan, kusikos, and the most challenging – the Inubon a Sabong — a tiny and detailed design creating artistic craft through looming.
Her birthday is in time for the inauguration of the Pinili Inabel Center — 290 square meters area and approximately 25 feet high up to the ceiling. The project cost amounted to more or less than 12 Million pesos.
The Inabel Center is a convergence project under usufruct agreement of the Department of Public Works and Highways, Ilocos Norte 2nd Congressional District Office through Congressman Angelo Marcos Barba, and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte spearheaded by Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc. | via Bernard Ver @ RMN News
