The Iloilo City Government has no control over the prayer rally to be joined by religious and various sectors and residents of Iloilo City tomorrow.

City Administrator Atty. Hernando Galvez said the City Government did not call for the prayer rally but it was a multi-sectoral initiative.

The post from social media states that some Ilonggos will organize a “prayer rally to show the support to Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and the rule of law, justice and peace” on August 31 at 5pm.

“I have no personal knowledge of that. I have received reports about it and was surprised to know that there will be a prayer rally. I would like to clarify that we have no idea about it,” Galvez said.

Galvez said that while the City Government respects the way on how Ilonggos calls for unity through prayer, he said that organizers of the rally should get a permit first.

“We can pray wherever we want even when we are sitting, inside the church, and we cannot stop them provided that they respect the rights of others,” added Galvez.
