Bello awards EC cash assistance to Philippine Marines

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III awarded ₱140,000.00 worth of Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) cash assistance to fourteen (14) members of the Philippine Marines on December 01, 2021 at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 2, Tuguegarao City.

The Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP) covers uniformed personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) despite their exclusion from the coverage of the Republic Act No. 8291, otherwise known as “The Government Insurance Act of 1997.”

Thus, in the event of work-connected sickness, injury or death, uniformed personnel or their beneficiaries may avail their EC benefits at any Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) office nearest to their place of work or residence.

In relation to this, these beneficiaries contracted covid19 through established workplace transmission which qualified them for the EC sickness at the GSIS. Once their claims were approved, they are eligible to apply for ECC cash assistance online thru the ECC Cash Assistance Digital System (ECCADS).

The cash assistance is a complementary benefit amounting to ₱10,000.00 for EC sickness/disability claims and ₱15,000.00 for the beneficiary in case of death due to covid19.

“The provision of cash assistance for covid19 is our way of helping the employees augment their income which were greatly affected by this pandemic.” said says ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis. “We promise to continuously extend our helping hand and create a meaningful package of benefits for our employees to help them secure themselves if they happen to meet any work-related contingency.”
