Barangayey DisasteReady brings disaster preparedness closer to communities through interactive learning and emergency response training.
TALISAY CITY, Cebu July 25, 2026 — Communities came together in Talisay City for Barangayey DisasteReady, a disaster preparedness initiative powered by AboitizPower and Visayan Electric, organized by DYHP and iFM Cebu. The event equipped participants with practical knowledge and life-saving skills to help them prepare for and respond to emergencies.
The program opened with a message from Erik Monsanto, Marketing and Communications Manager of Visayan Electric, who emphasized the importance of using the right tools and knowledge needed during times of crisis.
Residents strengthened their disaster readiness through expert discussions on earthquake preparedness and typhoon response led by Jinnore Lloyd R. Alamanza, USC DRRM Personnel and Hipodromo Fire Responder. Complemented by interactive activities designed to make safety practices more engaging and relatable.
The event also featured specialized training sessions from emergency response experts. SFO1 Oliver Rey C. Samaco conducted a Fire Prevention Talk, while William Paul Empuerto of the Philippine Red Cross facilitated a hands-on Basic First Aid and CPR Demonstration, equipping participants with life-saving skills they can apply during emergencies.
As part of their commitment to strengthening community preparedness, Visayan Electric Community Relations Head Nino Paolo Cerrado and Erik Monsanto led the ceremonial turnover of emergency response equipment to the Talisay community, including five (5) fire extinguishers, two (2) Fire Marshal kits, and five (5) emergency supply kits to support local preparedness efforts.
Interactive partner booths, safety activities, and the DisasteReady Safety Kit raffle further encouraged residents to take an active role in building safer and more resilient communities.
More than a one-day event, BarangaYey DisasteReady demonstrated how strategic partnerships can strengthen community resilience. Through the combined efforts of AboitizPower, Visayan Electric, and RMN Cebu, the initiative equipped residents with life-saving knowledge and reinforced the importance of disaster preparedness in safeguarding lives and communities.
