MALABON CITY, August 10, 2026 — Mayor Jeannie Sandoval and the Malabon City Government are taking proactive measures to protect residents from the possible impacts of rising water levels, including encouraging communities in flood-prone areas to undertake preemptive evacuation as a precautionary measure amid heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
This follows the latest monitoring of water levels, with the La Mesa Dam reaching 80.13 meters as of 12:00 noon, just 0.02 meters below its spilling level of 80.15 meters, while the Angat Dam was at 161.81 meters as of 9:00 a.m. The Tinajeros Bridge water level was also monitored at 11.0 meters as of 1:00 p.m., according to the Malabon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).
These conditions underscore the importance of early preparation and continuous monitoring of water levels to ensure safety of residents from flooding .
“Nitong mga nakaraang araw ay nakaranas tayo ng malakas na pag-ulan. Bagama’t tayo ay nakahanda para sa anumang magiging epekto nito, inaanyayahan natin ang bawat tahanang Malabueño na siguruhin ang kaligtasan ng bawat pamilya. Hindi biro ang malakas na pag-ulan at pagbaha kaya dapat lagi tayong alerto. Patuloy tayong nakikipag-ugnayan sa mga barangay, mga ahensiya, at organisasyon upang masiguro ang kaayusan at sistema para sa kapakanan ng ating mga kababayan,” Mayor Jeannie said.
As part of the City Government’s preventive response, the MDRRMO, led by Officer-in-Charge Roderick Tongol, along with the 1301st Community Defense Center army reservists, conducted monitoring and coordination in different barangays, including Tinajeros, Niugan, Longos, and Potrero, to encourage residents, particularly those in low-lying and flood-prone communities, to evacuate early rather than wait for floodwaters to reach dangerous levels.
The MDRRMO also advised residents to prepare their emergency go-bags, secure important documents and belongings by moving them to higher areas, and coordinate with barangay officials and responders if evacuation assistance is needed. Barangay officials and responders are likewise being mobilized to assist residents who may need to leave their homes and proceed to designated evacuation centers.
The City Government has also ensured that around 43 evacuation centers across the city are ready for activation, while relief packs are being prepared for distribution to families who have already evacuated.
As of 1:00 p.m. today, the MDRRMO reported that three evacuation centers are currently accommodating 29 families or 119 individuals who evacuated due to the effects of the Southwest Monsoon since Sunday, August 9. These include Tinajeros Elementary School, with 19 families or 71 individuals; Panghulo Elementary School, with 3 families or 16 individuals; and Maysilo Elementary School, with 7 families or 32 individuals.
Mayor Jeannie also assured residents that the city’s 40 pumping stations remain operational to help manage water accumulation in areas that may be affected by flooding.
Meanwhile, the City Engineering Department continues to conduct declogging and sandbagging operations in identified areas, including portions of the Tullahan River, as part of the city’s efforts to mitigate the possible effects of flooding. The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) is likewise conducting clean-up drives and garbage hauling operations to help ensure that major roads, waterways and drainage systems remain unobstructed.
“Ang mahalaga ngayon ay huwag na nating hintayin na lumala ang sitwasyon bago tayo kumilos. Ang maagang paglikas ay isang preventive measure upang maprotektahan ang buhay at kaligtasan ng ating mga kababayan. Hinihikayat namin ang ating mga residente na makipag-ugnayan sa kanilang barangay at sundin ang mga abiso ng ating mga awtoridad.,” Rosete said.
